Houses made of wood are considered the most comfortable to live in. It is well-deserved. Compared to houses made of other materials, wooden buildings save on heating and air conditioning. There are three ways to build a house from wood. Let's take a closer look at them.
Preparation the cottage for winter begins already in autumn. But it is necessary to prepare not only the cottage, but also the surrounding area. If you want your seedlings would not have met death in cold, then you need to prepare them for winter in autumn. Since our winter is unpredictable and in the middle of winter the snow can melt abruptly as well as everything can freeze, as a result winter can become fatal for them. To prevent the plants from dying in winter, you need to do some gardening.
First, always pay attention to frost resistance when choosing plants for the garden. Therefore, choose seedlings from the nursery garden, because there you will definitely not be sold plants that do not meet their characteristics. Second, help your plants enter a state of winter dormancy. It works this way: starting from the end of July feed the seedlings with nitrogen fertilizers. This is necessary in order for the shoots of the trees do not grow so quickly. Because young shoots may not survive frosty winter. If you have planted plants only in current season, they also require additional shelter for the winter, because they may not have been able to adapt to local climate. Especially it is necessary to pay attention to plants from the southern regions. For example, rhododendrons must be covered before the temperature is -15 degrees at night.
When frost sets in, old flower bushes more often die than young ones. During the research it found out that in order plants survive the cold weather, a 10 centimeter layer of snow in December and a 25-40 centimeter layer in other months of winter is required. From this we can conclude that for successful preservation of plants from frost, snow retention should be done. Usually snow retention is done in places where snow is blown out. In order for the snow not to be blown out branches, stalks of corn or chrysanthemums must be laid out. It is especially important to delay the December snow, as the seedlings often freeze at the beginning of winter. Also, to protect the seedlings from severe frost, you can use improvised means, such as agrofiber, polyethylene foam, PVC film. Covering with these products will keep your plants safe. This procedure is important as soil temperatures significantly differ between covered and uncovered areas. This difference reaches 11-14 degrees.
There are many other ways to shelter plants from the cold, for example, peat, leaves, needles, straw, sawdust, cattails, reeds, etc. are good materials that keep heat. It is preferable to cover the strawberries beds with straw or leaves in a layer of 10-15 centimeters. Garlic beds require the same procedure as strawberry beds. And biennial flowers should be covered with a thick layer of straw and additionally covered with a polyethylene polyfilm on top, which is best pressed with stones so that it do not fly away in strong winds.
